R&D Project

Hello,

The evaluation process by the review committee for the project titled “Development of a New Generation Perlite-Based Insulation Material,” submitted on behalf of your company WELTEZ YAPIKİMYASALLARI A.Ş., has been completed. As a result of the evaluations, it has been deemed appropriate for the mentioned project to be carried out within the scope of Biruni Technopark.

Below are the assessments of our reviewers:

Reviewer 1: It is clear that the project will benefit both the company and the national economy at the domestic level. Given the company employees’ many years of successful project management experience in the sector, it is seen that the targeted project can be successfully carried out. The technology to be used within the scope of the project is suitable for the project.

Reviewer 2: The main objective of the submitted project is to develop a ready-to-use insulation plaster mortar with inorganic binders using expanded perlite, providing thermal and water insulation while being breathable. The aims and justifications of the project, as well as the gains to be achieved upon its successful completion, have been adequately presented. The perlite-based insulation material planned to be developed within the scope of the project is expected to make significant contributions in critical areas such as energy saving, building safety, and environmental sustainability, leading to both economic and national gains. It has commercialization potential. The project’s financial resources are planned to be covered by equity capital. While the project amount is deemed sufficient, it may be challenging to secure such a financial source. Application to funding sources is recommended. Overall, my opinion on the project is positive.

Reviewer 3: The project application aims to develop an innovative and environmentally friendly product and is well-structured in terms of technical details, work plan, and objectives. The expanded perlite-based insulation material to be developed has the potential to fill an important gap in the sector with features such as energy saving, waterproofing, and fire resistance. The project demonstrates an approach to developing and commercializing a technology that can provide competitive advantages both nationally and internationally. It aims to develop a product with a low carbon footprint in line with sustainability goals and to deliver environmental benefits. The necessary equipment is adequate and appropriate for the project goals. The product’s compliance with environmental regulations such as the European Green Deal indicates that it could see strong demand in international markets. Additionally, the potential to create import substitution opportunities in the local market is noteworthy. The academic and industrial experience of the project team members supports achieving the project goals. Overall, the application is evaluated as a strong project in terms of objectives, equipment infrastructure, and commercialization potential. Accordingly, it is considered appropriate for the project to be carried out within the Technology Development Zone of Biruni University.
